Progress
Grading is almost complete! Only three areas of earthwork involving blasting and mass hauling remain. In April, the focus shifted to complete installation of around 3,800 feet of waterline on McWright’s Ferry Road. An additional crew was assigned to this effort, taking the completion time from the projection of a couple of months down to just a couple of weeks. The sanitary sewer line is in place from near the bridge to Oak Glen and will continue north on McWright’s Ferry Road after waterline installation is complete. Progress on the bridges continues as the substructure of both bridges is complete, and deck pans are being installed. The new alignment of Rice Mine Road south of SR-297 (Bryant Bridge) will be paved soon. Residents and the travelling public on McWright’s Ferry Road, SR-297, and Rice Mine Road should expect traffic impacts from short term lane closures, lane shifts, and new traffic patterns as the project progresses into existing travel lanes.
Upcoming impacts
- As part of the SR-297/Rice Mine Road intersection improvements, a sequence of lane closures will be implemented on SR-297 beginning next week and extending through the summer
- The waterline and sanitary sewer installation that is currently underway will require intermittent lane restrictions on McWright’s Ferry Road from Oak Glen to Bluegrass Pkwy
Next steps
- Complete waterline installation and connect residents to the new water mains
- Continue sanitary sewer improvements along the existing portion of McWright’s Ferry Road
- Continue deck construction on both bridges
- Complete the earthwork operations on the remaining areas of the project
- Begin fine grading, grassing, and base placement on the new portion of the roadway to connect the bridge to existing McWright’s Ferry Road
- Complete construction of the new Bluegrass Parkway
