Progress

Considerable progress has been made on the asphalt paving across various sections of the project. On the new segment of McWright’s Ferry Road, asphalt binder layers were placed on the lanes and shoulders, extending the paved portion of the roadway further north. Paving was also done on the widened part of Rice Mine Road, and on SR-297, where binder layers were placed from the new intersection to the bridge.  These recently paved areas will allow traffic to utilize the new SR-297 and Rice Mine Road intersection, marking a major milestone for the project. Additionally, decorative railing has been installed on the pedestrian bridge, and the concrete finishing and steel painting on the roadway bridge are underway.

Upcoming impacts

  • Rice Mine Road lane shifts will remain in place until the new road is tied in and traffic can be redirected through the new intersection.
  • The left lane of the SR-297 south diversion will remain closed.
  • A temporary road closure of Rice Mine Road will be conducted in November to complete a storm drain crossing.
  • A traffic pattern change will be implemented on Rice Mine Road to place traffic on the new roadway and intersection around Thanksgiving.

Next steps

  • Continue lighting and security infrastructure on McWright’s Ferry Road
  • Complete remaining bridge work
  • Complete final grading and finish shoulders, slopes and the pedestrian path on the new portion of McWright’s Ferry Road
  • Complete the Rice Mine Road South tie-in and place traffic on the new roadway and intersection
