Progress

The McWright’s Ferry Road project is past the halfway point. Several project milestones were achieved this month, including the completion of both the roadway and pedestrian bridge decks. This leaves only bridge end slabs and barrier rail on the roadway bridge, and decorative railing on the pedestrian bridge to be completed. Another milestone met this month is the completion of earthwork, grading, and paving of the new McWright’s Ferry Road from SR-297 (Bryant Bridge) to North River. Paving was also done on McWright’s Ferry Road northeast of the bridge. Conduit and pole bases for the pedestrian path lighting and security are underway northeast of the bridge, and work continues on the SR-297/McWright’s Ferry Road traffic signal. On Rice Mine Road, the contractor completed remaining storm drainage on the east side and has begun the 12” watermain relocation on the west side.

Upcoming impacts

• Traffic will continue using the SR-297 diversions as work in the new SR-297/McWright’s Ferry Road intersection progresses. The last phases of SR-297 intersection work will require closure of the left lane of the south diversion (traveling towards Bryant Bridge) before traffic utilizes the new intersection.
• Utility and road work on Rice Mine Road will require lane closures until traffic can utilize the new intersection. Several phases of lane closures or shifts will be put into place as the contractor prepares for traffic to be placed on the new alignment.  
• Roadway work on the sides of existing McWright’s Ferry Road will necessitate intermittent lane closures in the fall.

Next steps

• Continue lighting and security infrastructure on McWright’s Ferry Road
• Complete remaining bridge items:  bridge end slabs, barrier rail, and decorative railing
• Continue final grading, paving and grassing on the new portion of McWright’s Ferry Road
• Begin placing curb and gutter on existing McWright’s Ferry Road and Rice Mine Road
