Progress

Remaining grading, stone base placement, and lower layers of pavement were completed on the north end of the project from Sierra Dr to New Watermelon marking another milestone on the project.  The footprint of McWright’s Ferry Road has reached the northern-most point on the project as it ties into New Watermelon Road.  This portion of the project currently in the works contains a re-alignment of the New Watermelon intersection that is expected to increase both capacity and safety.  Other aspects of the project have progressed including the installation of poles and mast arms for the New Watermelon traffic signal.  Lighting/security infrastructure has also continued north on the project, and the contractor has continued placing topsoil and sod on McWright’s Ferry Road.

Upcoming impacts

  • Bluegrass Pkwy traffic will begin using the re-aligned road this week
  • Lane restrictions and shifts will be implemented on New Watermelon Road as tie-ins are constructed.
  • Traffic will shift to the new intersection after tie-in work is completed

 Next steps

  • Complete New Watermelon intersection including road work and traffic signals
  • Continue lighting/security infrastructure and sod placement on McWright’s Ferry Road
  • Complete multi-use path along McWright’s
