Progress
The McWright’s Ferry Road project has reached another significant milestone. The final asphalt surface has been placed, and temporary striping has been completed on Rice Mine Road and SR-297, McWright’s Ferry Road, and on New Watermelon Road. This marks completion of one of the last major phases of construction. The newly completed intersection at McWright’s Ferry Road and New Watermelon Road is open to traffic and the new traffic signal is operational. Final grading of shoulders, slopes, and yard areas is nearing completion and sod has been installed along McWright’s and around the New Watermelon Road intersection. Work continues on the lighting and security infrastructure as the contractor finalizes the remaining light circuits at the north end of the project and on the pedestrian bridge.
Upcoming impacts
- Back-to-school traffic may lead to longer commute times
- Expect the new portion of McWright’s Ferry Road from SR-297 to near Waterfall Lane to open this month. New traffic patterns will result.
- Permanent striping of roadways will be conducted in August, which may result in minor delays and workers near the travel lanes.
Next steps
- Complete final striping on the roadway, install guardrail on the bridge
- Continue progress of lighting and security infrastructure on McWright’s Ferry Road
- Open the new portion of the road to traffic
- Complete remaining items of work and punchlist items
