Progress

Progress continues on the new portion of McWright’s Ferry Road with the placement of topsoil, grass, and stone base and pavement. Sanitary sewer installation on McWright’s Ferry Road has been completed from near North River to New Watermelon Road including the recently completed line across McWright’s Ferry Road to Oak Chase. At the SR-297 (Bryant Bridge) intersection, old road has been removed, fill has been placed, and traffic signal construction has begun. On Rice Mine Road, the extension of storm drain and waterline relocation in front of Coral Industries has begun. Several spans of bridge decks have been poured, and bridge construction is expected to be complete in September.

Upcoming impacts

  • No new impacts to traffic will be scheduled for the first 3 weeks of August to accommodate school traffic
  • Traffic will continue using the SR-297 diversions as work in the new SR-297/McWright’s Ferry Road intersection progresses
  • Utility and road work on Rice Mine Road will require lane shifts and intermittent lane closures until traffic can utilize the new intersection
  • Roadway work on the sides of existing McWright’s Ferry Road will necessitate intermittent lane closures.

Next steps

  • Continue lighting and security infrastructure on McWright’s Ferry Road
  • Complete deck and barrier rail or handrail construction on both bridges
  • Continue final grading, paving and grassing on the new portion of McWright’s Ferry Road
  • Begin placing curb on existing McWright’s Ferry Road
