Progress
Drilling, blasting, and excavation continue to be the primary focus of the project. The contractor is nearing the end of the large-scale earthmoving, and the majority of the rock has been moved. The roadway is on grade between SR-297 (Bryant Bridge) and North River. Grading and earthwork south of SR-297 are progressing as well. The new roadway is near grade, the slopes have been graded and grass has been planted. Between North River and Oak Glen, the contractor has a few more weeks of excavation and haul off remaining to connect the graded sections of the new McWright’s Ferry Road. Segments of the new sanitary sewer line will be connected in the next two weeks. All girders are set and substructure of both the roadway and pedestrian bridge over North River are complete, and the contractor expects to begin deck construction soon. As the project continues, work operations will be moving towards existing portions of McWright’s Ferry Road and SR-297, which will necessitate occasional lane closures.
Upcoming impacts
- As part of the SR-297/Rice Mine intersection improvements, a sequence of lane closures will be implemented on SR-297 beginning 4/8/24 and extending through the summer
- Currently underway, waterline and sanitary sewer installation will require intermittent lane restrictions on McWright’s Ferry Road from Oak Glen to Bluegrass Pkwy
Next steps
- Continue Water & Sewer improvements on McWright’s Ferry Road
- Begin deck construction on both bridges
- Complete the earthwork operations and final grading south of SR-297, between SR-297 and North River, and between North River and Oak Glen
